Amp – Behind the Wheel

The Amp ATV is a blast to drive off road. It’s of course all electric and therefore has peak power at 0 RPM, but unlike the Torq Roadster, uses a 5spd manual transmission mated to a four wheel drive system to put it to the wheels.

It’s worth noting that with no clutch, choosing the right gear to suit your driving is a must. We’ve found 3rd gear to be our favorite for a combination of acceleration and overall speed, 5th for top end, and 1st for crawling, hill climbing or a controlled descent.

With the upgraded Fox suspension, the Amp does quite well over most terrain you’ll encounter… meaning we haven’t found a way to break it yet. We will continue to test the ATV until we find it’s limits, but we’re confident that it will provide plenty of fun off road adventuring.

Power comes by way of a 9″ DC electric motor paired with six safe-lithium batteries from Flux Power. The battery system has an integrated battery management system to gauge (and track) battery discharge and charging. This comes in handy to track temperature when the vehicle is driven hard for a sustained amount of time.

Overall, we’re really excited about the Amp ATV, and can’t wait to get some potential customers and journalists in the driver’s seat to tell their own story!
